Wrist nodular surgery, also called wrist arthroscopy, is a surgical procedure used to view and diagnose problems of the wrist joint. This surgery can help your doctor assess and treat conditions such as wrist fractures, ganglion cysts, ligament tears, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
In this procedure, a small camera and surgical instruments are inserted through a series of tiny incisions on the back of your wrist (called portals) to look at the inside of your wrist. The camera, known as an arthroscope, allows your doctor to visualize the inside of your wrist on a monitor. The doctor also uses the arthroscope to examine your bones, tendons and ligaments to find and correct problems. 손목결절종
To perform this surgery, your doctor will first numb the area with regional nerve block anesthesia. This means that your arm and hand are numbed so you cannot feel any pain. Then your doctor will make a number of small, half-inch incisions on the back of your wrist.
The arthroscope is a small tube with a camera and lighting system that your doctor will insert through the portals. The camera transmits images of your wrist to a video monitor in the operating room. Your doctor can use the arthroscope to look at all the areas of your wrist and diagnose or repair problems.
Your physician may recommend this surgery if you have severe pain in your wrist or difficulty using it. It can also be used to treat a range of other problems, including arthritis.
How fast you recover from your wrist nodular surgery depends on the type of condition you have and how well you follow your physician’s instructions. Most patients are able to return home the same day as their procedure.
After the procedure, your physician will wrap your wrist in a protective bandage or splint to hold the wrist in place while it heals. You may need to wear this splint for several days or more after the operation, depending on your recovery rate. You should keep the splint clean and dry. You should also keep your wrist elevated above heart level for the first few days to reduce swelling.
Typically, physical therapy is recommended after wrist nodular surgery to improve movement and strength in the wrist. Your therapist will provide you with a number of special exercises to strengthen and improve your grip and pinch strength, as well as to decrease pain, stiffness and swelling.
If you have a lot of pain, your therapist will prescribe medications to reduce it. You can also apply ice to the wrist to help with swelling and to decrease any discomfort you are feeling. 손목수술병원
You will also be given special exercises to do at home, which will help you regain the strength and mobility in your wrist. Most surgeons recommend that you follow your therapist’s recommendations to complete the rehabilitation process.
Many patients who have had wrist nodular surgery report that they felt better immediately after the procedure and experienced little to no pain in the wrist during or after their recovery. However, some patients experience some swelling and soreness in the wrist for a few days after surgery, which can be controlled with medication or by applying ice.
